Polaris RZR rentals - the Can-Am models we rent instead and how to pick the right one

The Polaris RZR is one of the most recognized sport side by sides on the market. It has been around since 2008 and covers a wide range of performance levels, from approachable entry-level machines to high-output turbocharged models. If you are looking for a Polaris RZR rental at Glamis, we rent Can-Am Mavericks and Commanders instead, and this guide will help you pick the one that fits your trip.

We break down every model we carry, who each one is for, and what kind of terrain it handles best. By the end you will know exactly what to book.

Riders who know the model they want.

A lot of people search specifically for an RZR 900, XP 1000, or Turbo. We do not rent Polaris, so this page shows the Can-Am models we rent and what is different about each one.

If you are a first-time rider, see our best UTV for beginners page before booking. The Commander and the Maverick X3 DS Turbo work well for newcomers. The X3 RS, X3 XRS and Maverick R do not.

The honest pros and cons

The Maverick lineup is built around performance, not versatility. That is a good thing if it matches your trip type and a drawback if it does not.

What works well

  • Purpose-built for sport and performance riding
  • Wide model range from beginner to advanced
  • Strong suspension travel for technical terrain
  • Available in 2-seat and 4-seat configurations
  • Well-suited to open dunes and fast trail runs

What to watch out for

  • Higher-output models require real experience
  • Less cargo space than utility side by sides
  • Not the right pick for slow, comfort-focused trips
  • Maverick R is not suitable for first-time riders

Trip types where a Can-Am Maverick works best

The Maverick is the right machine for specific kinds of trips. Here is where it shines.

Sport trail runs and canyon routes.

The chassis and suspension are built for this. The Maverick handles technical terrain better than a utility machine at the same price point.

Open dunes at Glamis.

The X3 RS Turbo RR and Maverick R are built for experienced riders at Glamis. The dunes reward confidence and smooth throttle control, and both machines have the suspension travel to handle big hits.

Performance day trips.

Half-day or full-day bookings where the goal is the drive, not the scenery.

When NOT to book a Maverick.

If you want a comfortable family ride with cargo space, see our 4-seater page. The Commander MAX XT is a better fit.

FAQS

What is the difference between the Polaris RZR 900 and the RZR XP 1000?

The main differences are power and suspension travel. The RZR 900 puts out around 75 HP with 12 inches of travel. The XP 1000 puts out 110 HP with 15 inches of travel. The XP 1000 is noticeably faster and more demanding to drive. We do not rent Polaris models. In our Can-Am fleet, start with the X3 DS Turbo (120 HP) if you are new, and step up to the X3 RS Turbo RR (200 HP) once you have side by side experience.

Is the Polaris RZR Turbo hard to drive?

Yes, compared to the rest of the lineup. The Turbo makes 168 HP, which is a lot for an off-road vehicle. It rewards smooth, experienced inputs and can get away from a nervous driver quickly. We do not rent the RZR Turbo. Our closest match, the Maverick R (240 HP), requires confirmed prior side by side experience.

Can beginners rent a Polaris RZR?

We do not rent Polaris RZRs, but beginners can rent from our Can-Am fleet. The Commander and the Maverick X3 DS Turbo are both well-suited to first-time riders. We will go over the controls in a safety briefing before you head out. If it is your very first time in any kind of off-road vehicle, let us know when you book and we will point you toward the most forgiving option we have.

Do you offer Polaris RZR 4-seater rentals?

No. We rent Can-Am 4-seaters instead. The X3 Max models fit four and keep the sport-focused feel of the 2-seat Mavericks. A good pick for experienced drivers who do not want to give up that feel just because they have passengers along.

What RZR model is best for Glamis dunes?

We rent Can-Am instead of RZRs. For experienced riders, the Maverick R is the most capable machine for open dunes. The X3 RS Turbo RR is a strong second choice. If you are newer to dune riding, the X3 DS Turbo gives you enough power to enjoy the terrain without overwhelming you.
